Hal Massie is the garden columnist for the Macon Telegraph and writes the back page column for Georgia Gardening Magazine. He is a Master Gardener and member of the Georgia Botanical Society, American Rhododendron Society, North American Butterfly Association, and other horticultural/botanical organizations. He volunteers at Callaway Gardens, for the Georgia State Park system, and with the Georgia Master Gardener Association. He serves on the board of directors for the Georgia Botanical Society and the Executive Committee for the Waddell Barnes Botanical Gardens at Macon State College.
Hal is the recipient of the 2002 Macon State College Botanical Gardens Award. Massie has a BS degree in Agriculture from the University of Georgia.
Geri Laufer, Atlanta Botanical Garden
Geri Laufer, horticulturist and author, is the recipient of top awards in both gardening and garden writing from American Nursery & Landscape Association, Garden Writers’ Association, Book of the Month Club, Garden Book Club and the National Cooperative Extension Service. Her home gardens have appeared in five books and on four national tours. She has appeared on Good Morning, America and Home Matters. Geri taught courses for the Environmental Horticulture Department at Gwinnett Technical Institute. She has a Master of Science in Horticulture with Honors from Rutgers University.
Donna Legare, Native Nurseries of Tallahassee, FL
Landscape Design with Natives
Donna Legare has co-owned and managed Native Nurseries, a retail nursery, nature store and landscaping service in Tallahassee since its inception in 1980. She has a BS degree in Wildlife Ecology and Forestry from the University of Florida and was a founding board member of Birdsong Nature Center in Grady County, Georgia, where she currently volunteers as a butterfly gardener. Donna co-wrote Planting a Refuge for Wildlife, a Florida Wildlife Commission publication and wrote the on-line course, Butterfly Gardening for the Horticulture Professional, for the Green Industries Institute. She teaches regular workshops on subjects pertaining to natural history and gardening and is particularly interested in the use of plants by wildlife.
Bill Hilton, Jr., Hilton Pond Center for Piedmont Natural History
Bill Hilton, Jr., is an educator-naturalist who brings the wonder of natural history to eager new audiences.
His work is a logical step from an earlier career as a high school and college biology instructor who helped launch
the South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics. He has been named South Carolina Science Teacher of the Year
twice and honored as the state's Outstanding Biology Teacher. Hilton has studied extensively and trained students, teachers, and "citizen scientists" across the U.S.
and abroad in Australia, Canada, and Costa Rica. Hilton now works as a science education consultant across the U.S. and also serves as executive director for
Hilton Pond Center for Piedmont Natural History in York, South Carolina. Bill has an M.S. in Ecology & Behavioral Biology from the University of Minnesota.
